Suzanne Valadon (1865-1938).
Suzanne Valadon was an artists' model in the 1880s and began to draw out of curiosity. Degas, who never employed her as a model, bought her drawings and helped her to make engravings. Her paintings show his influence, with that of Gauguin, and above all Matisse. Her son, Maurice Utrillo, whose father may have been the Spanish painter Miguel Utrillo y Motins, was born in 1883. There are works by her in Paris (Mus. d'Art Moderne) and other French museums.
